How much debt there is, in four questions
Public debt:

The State account only shows how much we pay in interest each year, not how much debt we have in total. Here we use Eurostat data (transmitted by Italy via ISTAT) to answer four questions: how much debt there is, in what form, who holds it, and for how long it was borrowed.
How the euro values are adjusted
“As published” means the figures exactly as the source recorded them at the time. “In today’s euros” means the same figures converted into today’s euros using the ISTAT price index, so distant years can be compared.
